CBD for seniors
Hemp products are not just for young people.
The elderly can also benefit from regular consumption of CBD.
Also, if you are directly concerned or caring for an elderly person, we invite you to find out what CBD oil is, how it can help you and how to use it safely.
Benefits known since the dawn of time
The importance of hemp seed for health was discovered by the ancients long ago.
This is evidenced by the fact that it was one of the first plants cultivated by man.
The Chinese have been using it in their medicine for four thousand years, while in India the plant is mentioned in texts dating back more than three thousand years.
It is also known to Assyrians and Tibetans, among others.
Initially, hemp was used as an analgesic, sleeping pill, anti-inflammatory, antidepressant and also as an appetite stimulant.
Modern research has made it possible to analyze the molecules contained in the plant and the benefits that can be derived from them.
Hemp can therefore be useful for the elderly and the sick who suffer from these ailments.
Pain, joint inflammation linked to various ailments and lack of appetite are unfortunately frequent companions of the daily life of many seniors.
In addition, hemp-derived CBD oil also helps with insomnia.
Studies point out that cannabidiol applied a few hours before going to bed, can have a soothing and calming effect. It should also be mentioned that this chemical compound affects the secretion of dopamine. As a result, it can prolong sleep and allow for a more relaxed awakening.
The role of cannabinoids
Cannabinoids play a regulatory role in the body, which can be seriously disrupted in the elderly. Our body is dotted with receptors of the endocannabinoid system and cannabinoids can bind to them and thus influence many bodily functions. They regulate, among other things, hormone secretion, hunger and satiety, energy use, mood, response to disease factors (inflammation), etc.
Our bodies produce cannabinoids themselves (called endocannabinoids), but they can also be taken in the form of dietary supplements (phytocannabinoids). The most important cannabinoids in this last group are those derived from hemp, such as CBD.
CBD oil is an ideal supplement for the elderly
CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid derived from hemp, i.e. it does not alter the mind. It is completely legal, recommended and generally used in the form of CBD oil.
CBD oil can be consumed as a dietary supplement, which helps regulate a number of bodily activities.
Note that this is a substance that does not present a risk; there are practically no contraindications to its use and almost no side effects.
These are the reasons why cannabidiol can be offered to our elders, to act on different pathologies.
It will particularly help people suffering from the following ailments:
- Mental health problems such as depression and anxiety - these problems are increasingly being diagnosed as primary illnesses or accompanying other health problems of older people. Cannabidiol can help because it has an anti-anxiety effect and improves mood.
- Lack of appetite - Appetite disorders are quite common in the elderly, and not eating enough has very negative effects, decreasing the person's vital energy and immunity old.
CBD oil stimulates the appetite and thus promotes sufficient caloric intake throughout the day.
- Sleep problems - these unfortunately also get worse with age, and CBD oil helps regulate the daytime rhythm.
- Rheumatic pains and body aches - which CBD eases and can even eliminate by relaxing muscles, countering muscle spasms and acting as an anti-inflammatory to soothe joints.
- Chronic inflammatory conditions - including those associated with, for example, atherosclerosis, in which we are dealing with inflammation of blood vessels.
The dosage of CBD oil
Taking CBD oil is not risky, its effects are felt over time. It is therefore necessary to favor regular doses and observe the reactions on the body.
We recommend starting with low doses and concentrations, for example 2-3 drops of 5% CBD oil 3-4 times a day. Gradually and if necessary, you can increase both the concentration and the quantity of the supplemented oil.
The oil will be most effective if the person consumes it 30 minutes before a meal, dropping it under the tongue without swallowing it for one to two minutes. In case anyone is very disturbed by this form of application,
CBD oil can also be added to a meal, preferably by mixing it with another fat, which promotes its action on the body.
