Discover CBG

Listen to this article:

The first time most of us heard about CBG, we thought we had read “CBD” wrong. However, it is indeed a different cannabinoid, which could combine well with CBD. So what is Cannabigerol, better known by the abbreviation CBG?

Discover CBG

Among cannabinoids, CBG can be presented as a stem cell. Just as human stem cells serve as the basis for every cell in the body, most cannabinoids start out as CBG.

Only later are chemical changes made to transform the CBG into CBD, THC or CBC. This is the reason why this molecule arouses great interest among researchers.

What are the differences between CBD and CBG?

Chemically, these two cannabinoids are quite similar. Just like CBD, CBG has no psychoactive effects, meaning it won't put you in a daze.

And both seem to be able to act on our body and improve our health. However, CBD mainly exerts neurological activity, while CBG rather addresses the digestive system.

CBG also appears to interact with the main inhibitory neurotransmitter of the central nervous system, gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). Its role consists of so-called “inhibitory” regulation of brain activity, which allows the brain to disconnect when the time comes.

Discover CBG: What are the interactions between CBD and CBG?

These two molecules are complementary and should not be seen as alternative options.

Cannabinoids actually work best in the original holistic arrangement they form as the hemp flower matures. CBG and CBD reach their full potential together , and the same goes for all the cannabinoids and terpenes found in the Cannabis flower.

All hemp contains some CBG, but it is usually present in minimal amounts.

With CBG flower , it is finally possible to combine the power of CBD with CBG in significant ratios.

Discover CBG flowers

In the past, CBG was only found in hemp flower in concentrations typically less than 1%. However, thanks to selective breeding, it is now possible to produce varieties of hemp strains with high CBG content.

With incredibly low levels of THC, CBG flower is simply cannabigerol in its natural form.

How to choose the CBG flower?

Not all hemp flowers are the same. Cannabis is a “bioaccumulator”, so you have to be careful how you cultivate it. This finicky plant needs to be kept away from toxins throughout its growing cycle, and growing organically is the best way to do things right.

The first step in organic hemp farming is to have genetically healthy seeds.

Then you have to fight against mold. Mold and fungi are organisms that leave behind complex networks of mycotoxins, even when removed from their hosts. Once contaminated, a moldy flower never becomes completely healthy again.

At CBD Certified, we place great importance in the choice of our products and make sure to select those that meet these criteria.

What is the true potential of CBG?

CBG is generally described as having a soothing and calming effect and has no notable side effects. But there is still much to discover about this cannabinoid.

Research on the digestive system

Currently, the majority of treatments for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) have quite serious side effects. This is why we are interested in substances of plant origin that could help in this area.

Scientists have studied the potential relationship between CBG and inflammation of the digestive system, to determine if this cannabinoid could be useful for IBD.

Another study looked at the potential appetite-stimulating benefits of this non-intoxicating cannabinoid. Researchers already knew that THC could cause hyperphagia (the desire to eat even when you are no longer hungry). But they wanted to understand why certain low-THC hemp strains also produced this effect.

Antimicrobial research

Perhaps one of the most interesting areas of CBG research is the work being done on the potential antimicrobial qualities of this cannabinoid. An initial study examined both CBG and cannabichromene (CBC) to determine their antimicrobial potential, with promising preliminary results.

Subsequently, other researchers reported that they had acquired additional evidence regarding the potential antimicrobial effects of CBG. In particular, they tested CBG against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

Research on neuroprotective CBG

A series of works have been published examining the potential neuroprotective effects of CBG.

The first of these studies aimed to determine the effects of CBG on neuroinflammation in the context of multiple sclerosis.

Encouraged by the results obtained, scientists have published work detailing the potential neuroprotective effects that CBG and CBD may exert when used in tandem . The potential neuroprotective and antioxidant effects of CBD and CBG in animals have also been examined.

Get to know CBG better: So what is the point of CBG?

Compared to CBD, little research has been done on CBG. But what we have already learned arouses great interest and gives hope for strong potential.

Non-intoxicating cannabinoids like CBD, CBG and CBN are changing the way we perceive Cannabis. Soon the plant was considered as a healing tool before considering its intoxicating aspect.
